Promoting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: An Examination of Diversity-Infused Faculty Professional Development Programs

Given the national and global demographic trends, diversity, equity, inclusion (DEI) are topics of discussion in U.S. higher education institutions. Most post-secondary institutions include DEI initiatives mission statements, including implementing inclusive frameworks approaches. These approaches universal design for learning (UDL), pedagogy, or multicultural education. The UDL approach teaching practices allow university faculty staff to teach with a structural that could accommodate diverse needs provide additional support differentiation needed vulnerable marginalized students. In this study, we infused DEI-focused pedagogy into professional development (PD) programs such as workshops, events, courses, resources. Qualitative data from follow-up survey demonstrated instructors’ positive attitudes adoption reflecting principles. findings study indicate practical implications instructional PD
